The latest evolution of Hobie’s Passport series of pedal kayaks is finally coming to Australia after being launched in the US in 2023. Transitioning to a Rotomoulded manufacturing process, the Passport 10.5 R and Passport 12.0 R will replace their thermoformed predecessors. The different manufacturing process brings some important changes while keeping the accessible design, reliable performance, and unbeatable value the Passport is famous for intact. For savvy buyers, this means there are some epic run-out deals on thermoformed Passport models – But only while stocks last!

What’s New with the Passport R Models?

The Passport R models brings some big changes in the construction and colours while remaining almost identical in every other aspect including hull design, seat, MirageDrive and all the standard features specific to each model.

Construction: Hobie is bringing the Passports into line with the rest of its kayak lineup (excluding the Lynx) by using rotomoulded polyethylene construction. The high-density polyethylene plastic they use is more durable and impact-resistant thanks to Polyethylene’s flexibility and its single-piece construction means no joins to worry about. Rotomoulded polyethylene has proven longevity, is relatively easy to repair and is easier to mount accessories to.

Manufacture: While the previous thermoformed Passport models were manufactured separately in Europe, the move to rotomoulded allows Hobie to manufacture the Passport at its main Mexico facility. This is where all other rotomoulded Hobie kayaks are manufactured, including the premium Pro Angler and Outback models.

Colours: The two-tone finishes of the thermoformed models are a thing of the past. The new Passports come in single-colour designs, with classic Seagrass Green and Slate Blue finishes, plus the addition of the new Dune Camo.
