Description
The Hobie Island Spinnaker Kit is a perfect addition to your Hobie Adventure Island or Tandem Island sailing kayak for enhanced performance while reaching or running. Off-the-wind sailing is typically the slowest point of sail, but with the addition of a spinnaker, the Island really comes alive! The powerful asymmetric spinnaker is particularly useful in lighter breezes, keeping your craft moving swiftly along so you can enjoy a wider range of conditions.
The Hobie Island spinnaker kit comes with everything you need to get set up, including; blocks, cleats, lines, hardware, a snuffer launching and retrieving bag and the spinnaker itself. The snuffer bag makes handling the spinnaker convenient and easy. Simply pull on the halyard line to launch, set the sheet, and you’re off! To lower the spinnaker, ease off the halyard and pull on the retrieval line. The spinnaker drops and stows directly into the snuffer system.
The kit also comes with a masthead wind direction vane so you always know which direction the wind is blowing. This is important because the spinnaker is only useful for downwind sailing and deep-reaching (typically between 110 to 170 degrees of the true wind direction). A spinnaker will not work effectively for higher angles or any upwind sailing. Please note that spinnakers can be challenging to rig and sail and are not recommended for novice sailors.
